This is a fairly new building compared to other palaces in India. the ground breaking was in 1929 and it was finished in 1943. An interesting fact about the palace from wikipedia:

"The building does not use mortar or cement to bind stones together; all of its pieces are carved stones joined together by a system of carved, interlocking positive and negative pieces. A specially constructed train line was used to transport these large blocks of stone. Umaid Bhavan is designed in such a manner that it always maintains the temperature at approximately 23 degrees Celsius."

The Jodhpur fort (Mehrangarh fort - 1459 AD) is a much more interesting place- I have photographs of the fort on archisage here: http://www.archisage.net/photo/albums/mehrangarh-fort
